Roger Martin Bergstein, after a long battle with diabetes and other illnesses, died on February 8, 2019 at the age of 75 at Manor Care of Hemet.
Roger is survived by his son, Scott Bergstein; his daughter-in-law, Lana Bergstein; his grandchildren, Filipp and Maya Bergstein; his brother, Ralph Bergstein; his sister-in-law, Martha Bergstein; and his nephew, Jonathan Bergstein. He is predeceased by his parents, David Bergstein and Anne Bergstein.
Roger was born in South Gate, a suburb of Los Angeles, on October 11, 1943 to David Bergstein and Anne Bergstein. On January 30, 1974, Roger and his then wife, Renee Bergstein, welcomed their only child, Scott Bergstein, who was the most important part of his life.
As a teenager at Hamilton High School, Roger played various sports; including basketball, wrestling, hurdles in track and field and pole vaulting. He served in the United States Naval Reserve for close to 2 years. His favorite hobbies were riding horses, bowling and playing golf throughout his life. Roger received many bowling trophies over the years and even achieved the illustrious, “hole in one”, playing golf. On any given day, you could have found Roger cheering for some of his favorite sports teams, such as; L.A. Angels, L.A. Lakers, L.A. Rams, L.A. Kings and UCLA Bruins. He was very fond of folk music and rock and roll and even played guitar and wrote his own music. Watching movies, such as comedies and horror films, were always a thrill for him. Roger enjoyed selling real estate throughout his latter part of his life. He loved to travel and one of his favorite trips was always to Hawaii. Roger’s dream was to always live in Maui, Hawaii. He ultimately felt at peace in Hawaii and had a spiritual connection with the islands.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on February 17, 2019 at England Family Mortuary in Temecula, CA. Rabbi Stephen Epstein will officiate the memorial.
