Susan Diane Dowis

Susan Diane (Moore) Dowis died suddenly Monday, August 10, 2020, with her husband beside her. A viewing was held for her at the England Family Mortuary, Temecula, CA Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Sue was born in Rochester, NY, May 28, 1948, to Edwin Gerald Moore and Jessie Addie (Saltsman) Moore. The family moved to California in 1957. She graduated from Loara High School in Anaheim June 1996. She was a member of the Drill Team and Band and participated in the opening day ceremonies for the Los Angeles (then Anaheim) Angels. She went on the California State University Fullerton where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. She continued her education by obtaining a degree in the Medical Record field. During this latter time, she married Richard Alan Dowis, July 20, 1973, at the La Venta Inn, Palos Verdes, CA. Within a year, they moved to Corona, CA, where they lived 40 years. She became the Medical Record Director for Corona Regional Medical Center. She later accepted a similar position with Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar, CA. IVRMC was acquired by Universal Health and she eventually became Director of Medical Records for three hospitals – Inland Valley, Rancho Springs, and Temecula Valley. While medical records may not sound exciting, she loved it – the work, the challenges, and especially all of her fellow employees. Each held a special place in her heart. She and here husband retired in 2015 and moved to Solera Diamond Valley in Hemet, CA. There she enjoyed the company of family, neighbors, and many long-time friends. Sue and Dick were actively involved in “document hunting” for their family lineages. She had traced her family back to Hans Valentin Balthasar Saltzman (1628-1711). The family eventually migrated to New York and settled in the Mohawk Valley. Most of her family of cousins, aunts, and uncles have remained in that area. She delighted with each new discovery and often would exclaim, “I remember that name. My parents (or grandparents) talked about them but I never knew who they were or how we were related.” Through a genealogical research by one of her aunts, she learned she was a Daughter of the American Revolution. Being a history major made this and the hunt ever more exciting for her. Dick was married previously and had two boys, Greg and Sean. One of the boys married Ruby and they had a daughter Rachel and a son Charles. Rachel also has a daughter, Evelyn. Sue and Dick had one child, Brett Alan Dowis, born in Corona, CA, 1978. He married Heather Renae in 2014 who already had three children, Amanda, Katherine, and Hunter. Brett and Heather have two daughters, Kai Alena and Sawyer Rae. Sue and Dick watched over (and probably spoiled) these two by babysitting them two or more days per week. The girls loved to have her read to them and she was always ready and willing to do so. Being an only child, Sue loved her extended family of three children and two daughters in law, five granddaughters, two grandsons, and one great granddaughter. Sue treated all of them as if they were her own and she felt they loved her as much as she loved them. Sue and Dick were married for 47 years and enjoyed a wonderful life together. They traveled by car, air, and cruise ship to many places in America, Montreal and Vancouver in Canada, as well as Mexico City and Acapulco (honeymoon), the Caribbean and Panama Canal, and Cancun. The one place they described as most special to them was Philadelphia and the American Revolutionary War and Civil War areas.
