Irene Agnes Roney

irene roney
Irene (Irini), from the Greek meaning "peace." Irene Agnes Roney went home to the Lord peacefully on the 24th of February, 2022. She was 2-1/2 months shy of her 95th birthday, born on the 14th of May, 1927 to Christos and Vasiliki Cosindas of Quincy, Massachusetts. She was the last of 13 children, 9 of whom survived, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. She is predeceased by her parents, all her siblings and her husband. She is survived by her 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She grew up in Quincy, attending school through the 8th grade with some Greek schooling along the way, but was unable to continue beyond the 8th due to needing to work to help the family. She worked at the local shipyard all through the 2nd World War. It was there during that time at a party she became acquainted with her husband to be, George Roney. On the 25th of June, 1946, they became one and began a 60 year marriage together in Buffalo, NY where they welcomed the first of 3 of their 6 children: Don, John and Tim. They moved to Venice, CA, in 1957 and within a few more years welcomed the last 3 of their 6 children: Nancy, (the only girl), Mike, and Tom. In the following years they moved 3 more times to Culver City, Gardena, and Huntington Beach before settling in Temecula in 1977 for 25 years, and then finally to Wildomar in 2002. Irene spent her years being the consummate wife and mother to her family, fulfilling her household duties and caring for us all, providing a beautiful and welcoming home and unselfishly supporting us in all we did. She was always active in her church, as time would permit, teaching CCD (Catechism), serving as a Eucharist minister, giving communion at church and in the hospital, as a member of the women's guild and being in charge of the prayer line. Irene and George came to St. Catherine's in 1977 and both remained parishioners until their deaths. Our very special mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and wife of 60 years to our father, George Roney, will be dearly missed but at last is finally at peace without pain in the eternal presence of the Lord.
