Loredana Biro

Loredana Biro: May 14, 1943 – December 27, 2022
Italian. Smart. Beautiful. Fighter!
The younger of two sisters, Loredana Biro was born to a single mother in Bologna Italy in 1943,
almost exactly two (2) years before Polish and American troops liberated the city as World War
II was ending.
Throughout her entire life, even beginning with her early childhood, she was a fighter!
Loredana’s upbringing was in a ravaged post-war Italy including time in an orphanage, moving
between her several aunts that lived in or near the city and that helped to raise her, and
sporadic time with her own mother. At only sixteen (16) years old, a beautiful young woman
with movie-star looks, she met her future husband, Bela A. Biro, on a blind date, fell in love, and
soon after, brought her first of two sons into the world, Bela Marco Biro. Circumstances led
Loredana and her young family to make the move to the United States, California, where she
would learn to speak English, to have a second child, Alessandro (Alex) Biro, attend university,
and from nothing, to grow a non-profit organization serving the elderly, fighting inequities for a
segment of the population she was passionate about long before it became popular to do so,
finally retiring to pursue her interests that included reading everything she could get her hands
on, becoming a certified master gardener, and traveling the world.
Loredana is survived by her two sons, Bela and Alex, their loving wives, Cynthia and Stacy, three
grandchildren, Chase, Morgan and Nicholas, and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Jonas
Biro.
A funny and spirited lady, enjoyed her company.
Mrs Biro, as she would always be known to me, was truly one of the smartest people of anyone I have ever known. Not limited to a credentialed, check the box sort of way, but someone who had a deep understanding of life and a passion for doing good in the world which was informed by her extensive experience and brought into focus through her innate, extreme intelligence. She became a second mother to me at the age of 14, and I learned so much just being around her during my formative years. I could never understand the challenges she faced as a young mother coming to another country and not only surviving, but surpassing in all accomplishment many who had the benefit of starting here. But that resiliency would be something that would leave a mark as I learned to navigate my own world. I would come to see her as someone of action, who did not question, but just rose and met the circumstances around her. I always enjoyed conversations with her as she always brought such a clarity to the topic that would frequently be lost to me. I count myself very fortunate to have had the benefit of knowing her, and her loss is profound. Love You and Thank You, Mrs Biro.
A lovely and charming lady, you will be missed, Dana. The world is a lesser place without you. Thank you for courage and grace.
Such a lovely neighbor, I wish we had more time with her. We will miss her very much💕
Loredana was not just my aunt, but also a spirited friend and a lovely woman to chat with about anything and everything. She said it like it was, no matter what the consequences. I loved her and will miss her very much!❤️
Loredana was not just my aunt. She came across as a spirited friend with whom you could discuss anything. She always spoke her mind, regardless of the consequences. She will be greatly missed!
Loredana’s life for the many years that I knew her was profoundly significant and impactful to me. Her death is a great loss to me, to many others, and to the world. If I were to start writing about her and how I knew her, it would take a long time and fill many pages. I will try to do it someday as a tribute to her, the unique and marvelous person that she was.
