Patricia Agers

patricia agers

Patricia Louise Agers was born June 6, 1933 in Stockton, California and raised in Manteca, California. She was born to Loren and Pearl Woodworth. Amazingly, the baby of 15 children and proud to be a farmer’s daughter! As she would say it she had little interest in pasta and was a meat and potatoes kind of girl and had quite the muscles from milking cows!!

Patricia loved horses from a young age and her first horse Star helped her get her first car! She enjoyed worked on her sister’s farm, Jacktone Ranch, where she developed an early love for the Arabian breed and the famous Fadjur.

Patricia met the first love of her life, Don Smelser at just 18 where they created a beautiful life together for the next 18 years enjoying lots of ballroom dancing and had 3 children: Laura, Robert, and Karen and was one of the first printer operators for state of California in the mid seventies.

Patricia tragically lost Laura at just 16 and her husband Don just after that. Her unwavering faith carried her through the tragedy of her loss of both her husband and daughter and she forever kept a strong devotion for the Lord. Just a short time later, Patricia married Joe where they spent the next 22 years finishing raising Robert and Karen and welcoming their 2 grand children, Tricia and Chris (Karen’s children), and devoting their time and love providing weekly care for Tricia and Chris and running a successful car lot in Sacramento, California.

After losing Joe, Patricia found herself with a quiet house and decided to move out to the country on her daughter Karen’s property where she enjoyed gardening, horse races, feeding the horses over the fence, picking up Tricia and Chris from school, attending a lot of her grandkids activities and resumed her love for ballroom dancing again! A couple of her favorite dances were the Waltz, Foxtrot and the West Coast Swing. She enjoyed competitions and dancing all over with her friends.

Patricia made some of her greatest friends during this time of her life and even took a dabble in real estate and worked with her long term friend Dot. Her girlfriend Nancy introduced her to the final love of her life, Jim, and they spent 11 wonderful years together. As empty nesters Jim and Patricia danced and traveled all over enjoying their time together and feeling young again. Some of their favorite trips included Lake Tahoe, multiple cruises, and Hawaii. They enjoyed traveling to the Bay area to see Jim’s family and up to Oregon where they spent a lot of time with her son Robert exploring beautiful waterfalls and places around town. Jim and Patricia also enjoyed Baseball and frequented lots of games together while also watching quite a few of their great grandchildren play. When Jim became ill Patricia devoted all of her time to his care and upon his passing she decided that she was ready for a new adventure. For the first time in her life she lived out of state and lived with Tricia in Oregon, and a few years later moved back to California with Tricia and her family in the San Diego area. Patricia was blessed beyond measure with 11 great grandchildren. Her grand daughter Tricia had 9 children: Angelo (27), David (25), Destiny (19), Lilly (19), Conner (17), twins Aleah and Abella (13), and twins Garrett and Garridan (8). Patricia’s grandson Chris had Elizabeth (4) and Jamie (2). Patricia loved living with so many of her great grandchildren and her granddaughter and loved the sunny San Diego weather. She enjoyed watching the kids put on shows and plays and watching them ride horses on the property. She also loved to sneak out for a mocha and avocado toast. She even began to like iced coffee, which she thought was quite silly before. Patricia made sure to have time for each and every person she loved. Making each person feel like her number one somehow. She spoke with her son and daughter every single day and even played words with friends and loved texting all of us and following along in our family group threads!

Anyone who knew Patricia loved her. She was warm, kind, and loving and had deep relationships with not only her children and grandchildren, but also all of her great grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to her and every thing that she had and did was for her family. Despite her grandson and his family and her oldest great grandson relocating out of state, she was blessed to carry out her final days on earth surrounded by all of her family at home. We shared a wonderful Easter together with all of her favorite things, many of which were her recipes and let Jesus take her home on April 12.

From the time we are born until the time we pass it is up to us to make the most of that dash and despite immense heartache she did just that. Its hard to summarize nearly ninety years of life into just a few paragraphs but she truly encompassed the word love. She loved the lord, her family and friends and life. She loved with her whole self and she will forever be missed.
