Froilan Colimay Santiago

September 29, 1961 ~ October 13, 2023
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, Froilan Santiago, at the age of 62. Son of Lucrecia Santiago and the late Florencio Santiago, Froilan departed this world on October 13, 2023, in Southern California, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on September 29, 1961, in the Philippines, Froilan grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture of his homeland with his mom, dad and 5 siblings. Â
In the tapestry of Froilan’s life, one remarkable chapter unfolded in 1976 when he established a connection with Presita Marquez, a pen-pal at the time. Years later, during Presita’s visit to the Philippines and while Froilan was in college, the families joyously agreed to their marriage. In 1979, Froilan and Presita embarked on a new adventure together, moving to Hawaii, where they welcomed three daughters into the world—Chanelle, Shareen, and Clarissa.Â
Life took the family to Kodiak, Alaska in 1991, where, in 1996, Froilan celebrated the arrival of his son Kodi. In 1998, the couple parted ways, and Froilan’s life took a new turn. In 2002, he found love again with Dee Ann Bryan, and in 2005, they were united in marriage. During their time together, Froilan embraced the role of fatherhood once more, helping raise Dee Ann’s three children—Randy, Chris, and Samantha. The years with Dee Ann brought joy and challenges ultimately leading to their separation in 2017.Â
Froilan dedicated much of his life to the world of construction, a passion he discovered at the age of 25. His journey as a construction worker took him through various companies, including Brechan, Redhook, Siegel, TBI, Belarde, etc. His dedication to his work was fueled by a genuine love for the craft.Â
Beyond the construction site, Froilan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, camping, playing basketball and hunting. Music was the one thing that brought him through many of life’s hardest times. He loved singing karaoke and cooking. His passion for cooking and singing spoke volumes about his desire to bring people together through the universal language of food and music. Froilan had a soft spot for casinos and a particular fondness for mangos.Â
A true people person, Froilan was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. His big heart left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. In 2019, Froilan moved to Washington State, where he continued working in construction until his retirement in late 2020.Â
In the final chapters of his life, Froilan had the opportunity to visit his mom and siblings in Kodiak, Alaska, and got to travel to the Philippines with a few of them. His journey eventually led him to Southern California, where he found solace with his youngest daughter and her family and the mother of his children. Â
Already fighting diabetes for over 10 years, and recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Froilan experienced a stroke, further testing the strength of his indomitable spirit. His family continued to stand by his side, offering their support and companionship as he navigated the challenges that each day brought.Â
In the final moments, a poignant gathering unfolded. Surrounded by all his girls, his son, and his first wife, the room became a sanctuary of love and shared memories. It was a moment of profound significance—a reunion that spoke of a lifetime of connections, shared laughter, and the enduring bonds of family.Â
Froilan is survived by his beloved mother, Lucrecia Santiago, a source of love and wisdom. Among his surviving siblings are three brothers; Ferdan, Leonilo, Leo and two sisters; Lowella and Lobilyn, who shared in the laughter, trials, and triumphs that marked the journey of the beginning of their lives together. Â
Froilan’s legacy is carried on by his three daughters—Chanelle, Shareen, and Clarissa—and his son, Kodi. The lessons he imparted and the love he shared will continue to resonate through the lives of his children.Â
In the next generation, Froilan is survived by 12 grandchildren; Nokaoy, Quasar, Jaydell, Hugh, Lamont, Abel, Michael, Kara, Zyrren, Eleia, Elani, and Eziekiel. Also, two great-grandchildren, Zaire and Na’Ziah, are the newest members of the family. They will grow up hearing stories of the man whose influence stretches across generations. These grandchildren and great grandchildren are the living embodiment of his legacy, carrying forward the torch of family and love.Â
Froilan will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the legacy of warmth and generosity he leaves behind. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the echoes of laughter, singing and the love he brought into the world.Â
