Marvin G Proefrock

Marvin Gerald Proefrock, 91, of Winchester, California, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23,
2023 with his wife and family by his side. Marvin was born on April 11, 1932, in New Rockford, North
Dakota, the son of Alfred and Lillian (Simonson) Proefrock.
Marvin attended grade school in Hamberg, North Dakota and he graduated from high school in
Fessenden, North Dakota. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1949 at
the age of 17. Upon completion of basic military training, he was assigned to the 30 th Bomb Squadron
where he completed Gunnery school at Patti Point Guam. From December 1949 to May 1951 during the
Korean War, he flew 64 combat missions as a B-29 Tail Gunner earning him the Bronze Star. He served
multiple tours during the Vietnam War as a F-4 Weapons Systems Technician. He also participated in
the development of the forerunner to the Doppler Radar Program involving the B-25 bomber. He retired
after 24 years of service in the United States Air Force. Not long after his retirement from the Air Force,
he began his Defense Contracting career with Grumman Aerospace, where he was employed as a
Weapons Systems Analyst supporting the F-14 program, at Point Mugu, California. He retired from
Grumman after 22 years of employment.
Marvin shared 31 years of marriage with the love of his life Remy (Bugsy). They enjoyed traveling,
visiting local casinos, and spending time with their family. He was a man with a great sense of humor,
quick-witted, and possessed an infectious laughter that uplifted those around him. His comedic timing
and ability to lighten the mood made him enjoyable to be around. He enjoyed listening to gospel music,
and loved watching western movies and television shows, with Gunsmoke being one of his all-time
favorites. He also enjoyed cooking and loved to show off his culinary skills whenever visitors were in the
home.
Marvin is survived by his wife Remy Proefrock of Winchester, his daughter Denise Proefrock of Oxnard,
his son Charles (Tracy) Proefrock of Camarillo, his stepson Christopher (Hazel) Medina of Winchester, 6
grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his
parents Alfred and Lillian Proefrock, his brothers Franklin Proefrock, Robert Proefrock, Ronald Proefrock,
Oris Proefrock, Leroy Proefrock, his sisters Betty Washington, Charlotte Skiftun, stepbrothers Duane
Kaul, Larry Kaul, Raymond Kaul, his oldest son Steven Proefrock, and his grandson Dominic Pinkard.

A private burial will be held on November 20, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Miramar National Cemetery in San
Diego, California.
