Carol Ann Dudding was born on April 7, 1940, in Williams, Arizona. As a young girl, Carol was a member of the Rainbow Girls and enjoyed the organization and the many friends she made. Carol was a lover of music, art and animals. She graduated from Tucson High School and attended Palomar Community College. She was a tremendous artist painting lovely southwestern and seascape oil paintings. In 1958, Carol married Donald Sturzenegger. After they married in Arizona, the moved to California. While married to Don, she had 3 children: David, Terri and Jeffrey. Carol passed away on May 23, 2020. She was a homemaker for most of her life and she enjoyed being a mother. Carol was a Christian and was active in her church. In 1985, Carol married Mervin Layton. They lived in both California and Arizona, but ultimately returned to California. Carol and Merv were adventurous. They liked to travel to far away places, traveling by plane and ship. Carol loved to dress in period dress such as old western fashion. She also loved chocolate, Mexican food, coconut shrimp and tempura shrimp and veggies. Carol was an awesome Mother. She had kind words for everyone she met. We will miss her smile, her love and patience, and most of all her presence. We love you!! Carol is survived by her children David Sturzenegger, Terri Gillette, and Jeffrey Sturzenegger (Mylinh). Grandsons Blake Gillette (Adriana) and Harlan Sturzenegger and great granddaughter Sofia Gillette Robles. She is also survived by brothers Pat Dudding (Hazel), Robert Dudding (Kathie) and sister Barbara Gagnon (Larry), and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by husbands Donald Sturzenegger and Mervin Layton and by her parents Charles and Patsy Dudding.
