Charles Louis Hoyt (Chuck) died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes June 22, 2020 at the home of his daughter in Keller, Texas, where he had lived for 4 months. He was 90 years old. Charles was born August 2, 1929 in Inglewood, CA to his father Charles Leslie Hoyt and mother Grace Alma Graeber. He attended Oak Street Elementary school, Crozier Middle School, and Inglewood High School where he met his wife Barbara Dennis. They married January 22, 1949 and lived in Lennox, CA. Later they moved to Downey, CA, in 1953, then in 1969 they built a home in La Habra, CA, where they lived for many years. In 1992 they moved to Murrieta, CA. Charles graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1952, having received a scholarship to Loyola in track and field, and in music, to play clarinet in the marching band. He joined the Air Force reserves in 1949-1953. His career was in the defense and aerospace programs having worked for North American Aviation, Hughes Aircraft, McDonnell Douglas and Ford Aerospace. He worked designing warning light systems for the Apollo spacecraft, testing experiments for the Skylab, docking systems for the International Space Station and the PAVE Tack targeting systems for US fighter jets. Charles and Barbara Hoyt are survived by four children: Scott Randall (Gaylene) of Southlake, Texas, Michele Denise Hughes (Bill) of Keller, Texas, Charles Laurence or Larry (Suzann) of Murrieta, CA and Tracy Glen (Kristine) of Murrieta, CA, 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, his sister Yvonne Shepherd, sister in-law Lorraine Peterson (Chuck), and aunt Nancy Page Graeber. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1952 and with his wife Barbara was very involved serving in many capacities throughout the years. He enjoyed music throughout his life having played clarinet in his high school band and sang in church choirs whenever the opportunity arose. He served in Boy Scouting throughout his life and was awarded the Honorary Golden Bear award by BSA in 1968. Charles was also awarded a lifetime membership to the PTA. He served as Bishop of the La Habra Ward then Brea First Ward for many years, and while living in Murrieta served for a couple years in the Riverside Mission Presidency. He and Barbara served a mission in Minneapolis, Minnesota for 18 months as well as in the Ortega Ward in Lake Elsinore. Chuck was known for being athletic and active his entire life. He ran the hurdles in high school in addition to the high jump and long jump. He loved activities with his children and grandchildren, snow skiing, snowboarding, water skiing, tennis, and golf, some of which he enjoyed up until the last 6 months. He was a true example of integrity and commitment. A private family memorial service will be held August 7, 2020 in Murrieta. CA. Interment will be at Murrieta Valley Cemetery District, Murrieta, CA.
