George R. 'Pete' Newman died on January 2, 2011, at the age of 86, joining his beloved wife of 63 years, Nancy, whom he lost in 2009. He passed away at home surrounded by his adoring family of two daughters, Reneé Johnson and Beth Hinman; his son Bro Newman, four grandchildren: Kevin Dodd, Nick Newman, Meghan and Kyle Hinman; and two great-grandchildren Lilly and Nate.He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and brought his family to California in 1957. He was a WWII veteran and worked as an Interstate Brands Executive for 35 years. After retirement, he dedicated his time tirelessly to serving the disabled.It will be hard for us to get over your passing, but we take comfort in knowing that one day we will meet again. You are our inspiration to be the best we can be, the light in our darkness, and our hero. We will love you for the rest of our time.There will be a private family viewing. A graveside service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 10:30. Family and friends will meet at Staging Area 6. Pete was the nicest person I had the privalige of calling a friend, Nancy Pete and family were a second family to me He will be missed, but never forgotten.
