In Memory of Gloria – A Champion of Life
Gloria June Butler Jacobsen, lovingly known as mom and nana to her family members, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023 in Temecula, CA at the age of 87. Born on June 20, 1936, in Boston, MA to Vincent and Mary Carson, Gloria was a beautiful, compassionate, and resilient woman who mad a lasting impact on the lives of many. She enjoyed thirty-one years of dancing and traveling with her loving husband, Red. She always had a kind word to say no matter how well she knew you, you didn’t have to do anything to earn her love. She was sure to teach her children and children’s children the importance of a close knit family choosing to love one another and being there for each other no matter what life may bring. Her ability to unconditionally love other knew no boundaries and she embodied the love of God with integrity.
Gloria will be deeply missed by her seven children and all of her surviving loved ones. She is survived by her husband Richard “Red” Jacobsen; children Debbie (David) Nance, John (Jessie) Butler, Criag (Renee) Butler, Mitzi DiStefano, Beth (Bill) Good, Barbie (Kip) DiBernardo, and Matt (Gina) Butler; stepchildren Rick Jacobsen and Renee (Guy) Tarson; granddaughters Kristine, Sarah, Daphne, Janel, Jade, Grace, Cassidy and Maddie; grandsons John, Erick, Will, Robby, Alden, David, Keegan, Richard, Christopher, and Chase; great-grandchildren Ethan, Derringer, Reef, Jack, Justin, Jett, Alex, Audrey, and Emma; sister Mary (Bill) Fruth; nieces Karen (Richard) Oppman, Cindy (Cage) Hoffman; and nephew Richard (Michelle) Dhooge. Gloria was preceded in death by her late husband Jack Butler of 35 years, son-in-law Rob DiStefano, parents Vincent and Mary Carson, and sister Betty Roulo.
Gloria fervently dedicated her spare time to pro-life causes, bringing hope to everyone she me through her unwavering faith and love for Jesus. She offered support, resources, and a safe haven to pregnant women in need, connecting them with maternity homes and adoptive families, participating in pro-life events, distributing educational materials, and using her writing to raise awareness. Gloria’s profound compassion and understanding left a lasting impact on the protection of unborn children and inspired others with her faith.
Gloria’s strong Catholic faith played a significant role in her life, and she attended St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Temecula. She served at her church regularly and most notably sold roses every Mother’s Day for decades, a tradition that she and a group of friends began back in the seventies. Gloria found solace and strength in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A ceremony to honor Gloria’s life was held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church.
