Mrs. Gwen Clothilde (Stokes) Carter, 90, of Temecula, California, passed away September 28, 2011. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother who opened her home to all and was impeccable in her generosity. She retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles for the State of California, she was a Supervisor of the Lancaster office. She had a loving, gracious spirit that touched everyone she came in contact with. She had a warm smile for everyone. She loved to read, and had a joy of playing bunco and hand and foot with her many friends. Loved to travel and enjoyed her many stays in Las Vegas. Was fierce in her love of family. Survivors include: Daughters: Darlene G. Miller, Kitty Serfoss; Son Wallace H. Carter, III. Brother Otto A. Stokes, real life sister Grayce G. Smith; several nieces and nephews; (12) Grandchildren; (12) Great-Grandchildren; (2) Great-Great Grandchilden. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Wallace H. Carter, Jr.; daughter Joyce A. Carter; and parents: Anna J. Kern and Harvey O. Stokes. Service will be Sunday, October 2, from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M. at England Family Mortuary with Jacques L. Smith officiating. Interment will be at Temecula Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
