James William Ferris

Our beloved Jim, husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle & good friend passed away at home on June 12th, 2025. He had been battling larynx cancer for several years. He went through chemo & radiation and won his first battle. Unfortunately, his cancer came back stronger and meaner the second time. Jim was one of those people who never met a stranger. He will be remembered with love by many people from Detroit to Temecula for his beautiful deep voice, his love of storytelling, his passion for Motown music, his unique sense of humor which was both funny and irreverent at times and, lastly but most importantly, his love and loyalty to his family and friends. He went to the University of Arizona after high school and joined their Kappa Sigma Fraternity Chapter where he made lifelong friends who affectionately referred to him as BeBop and Detwah. He was also known as Daddy0 and Iron Man in our family. He met his wife, Kay, on October 14th, 1977 and they were married 15 months later and never looked back. They went on to have two amazing children, Michael & Kimberly, also a wonderful son-in-law, Justin, and two beautiful grandchildren, Myla & Royce. Jim was very proud of his family and was also very proud to be a part-owner of a generational family parking lot in downtown Detroit and an active owner for decades. He never forgot his roots. He will be greatly missed and loved forever. His smile and his warmth will live on in our hearts.

See you in Heaven

  1. Almost from cradle to grave was the timeline of my friendship with Jim. 70 yrs ago I met Jim and brother Kenny at Grandma’s house in upper lower Michigan. Even tho we’ve had extended periods of separation we’ve never lost the closeness of brotherhood. We took up where we’ve left off in our friendship. That doesn’t end now. Jim will always be in my thoughts and heart. Praying for you James and your family.
    Love ya buddy.

  2. Jim/BeBop was a big presence at the Kappa Sig house at the UofA with his big personality and big voice. When Kay came into his life and after our kids grew up we began to enjoy weekend visits and trips. A highlight was our partnership in Joy Ride Racing that included three other Kappa Sig brothers. Together we were able to experience the thrill of watching our horses cross the finish line in the money with several wins. We even had a horse in the Breeders Cup! What a ride we had!

  3. I have known the Ferris Family for many years, but I didn’t meet Jim until Kimmy and Justin were married (at the wedding shower). He had a presence about him which I will never forget. He was so friendly and welcoming. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this devastating time. I’m so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful, kind and loving man.
