Joel Allen Ravy

joel ravy
Our beloved, Joel Allen Ravy, was called home to the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 24, 2019. He is now surrounded by the loved ones who have passed before him. Joel was the third child born to Donald and Carol (Spratley) Ravy on July 21, 1963, in La Mesa, California. Joel was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ravy. Until the age of 9, Joel lived in Santee, California. He and his family then moved to Ramona, California and built their family home. In 1981, Joel graduated from Ramona High School lettering in baseball, football, and wrestling. In his first year of college, he attended Cal Lutheran University in California but then transferred to Cal State San Marcos. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies in 1991, the university's first graduating class. Additionally, Joel minored in History and went on to receive an elementary education teaching credential. Joel began working in veterinary biotech for Synbiotics Corporation in Rancho Bernardo, California prior to completing his college education. However, once he completed his degree and teaching credential, he left the biotech industry to teach elementary school. Joel was hired to teach at Vail Elementary School in Temecula in 1993. He quickly learned that the rigors of teaching and disciplining students was not the correct path for him. He returned to the biotech industry again working for Synbiotics Corporation and returned to college at night to continue his science education. In 2002, he began working for Chemicon Corp. in Temecula which subsequently became Millipore/ Sigma years later. Joel was employed there for 17 years. He worked in Antibody Manufacturing for Millipore Corp. until his untimely passing. Joel met his wife, Rhonda, in 1992, and they were married on February 6, 1994 at Torrey Pines Christian Church in La Jolla, CA. As a couple, they moved to Temecula, once married and their first daughter Madelyn was born in 1999. The birth of their second daughter, Morgan, followed in 2003. Joel was an avid sports enthusiast and loved any athletic activity that brought him outdoors. In addition to lettering in baseball, football, and wrestling as a highschooler, he loved water and snow skiing, running, motocross, falconry, mountain biking, hiking, camping, and adventure race competitions. At the age of 53, he taught himself to surf so that he could share that passion with his younger daughter, Morgan. Joel also loved to coach and for over 10 years gave countless hours of his time, coaching both daughters in softball. He also loved watching sports especially baseball and football. Joel was a "die-hard" Anaheim Angels Baseball fan and Mike Trout was his baseball "hero". Joel leaves to cherish his memory with a loving and devoted wife, Rhonda; two daughters, Madelyn and Morgan; mother, Carol Ravy; two brothers Darin (Kim) Ravy, Michael (Paulette) Ravy; two half brothers Robert (Cathy) Ravy, Donald (Nancy) Ravy; half-sister Patty (Randee) Sampson and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as friends.
