lee tichenor
Lee Andrew Tichenor passed away on October 30, 2011 doing what he loved to do every Sunday morning, mountain biking at the Santa Rosa Plateau. Lee was born on July 7, 1951 in Decatur, Illinois and was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1969 and earned his bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois, Urbana. Always fascinated with airplanes, Lee became a design and project engineer in the defense and commercial aerospace manufacturing industry, most recently employed by Goodrich Aerostructures in Chula Vista. Lee loved many things in life, first and foremost being his family. In addition to mountain biking, he loved airplanes, cars, playing jazz saxophone, golf, and helping with the family winery. He is survived by his adored wife, Beth; their beloved son, John and daughter-in-law, Alma; grandsons, Johnathan and Anthony, all of Temecula, California; sister, Judith Tichenor-Kanelos, and brother-in-law, Mark of Bloomington, Indiana and numerous Wien family members. He was preceded in death by his father, John Russell Tichenor and mother, Dorothy Andrews Tichenor. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Santa Rosa Plateau Foundation or the Leukemia Society. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Wiens Family Cellars, 35055 Via Del Ponte, Temecula, CA 92592. This will be followed by a visitation at England Family Mortuary.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. As too often happens, we only catch up with friends from the past by Googling up their memorial page. I went to Oglesby Elementary with Lee. I remember he lived on N. Church St. a few blks S of the school. We also attended Roosevelt Jr. H.S. together. Almost every morning he, John Lowman, and I would meet on our bicycles at the corner of Monroe and Harrison, then ride to Roosevelt (on Grand Ave.) via the alleys between Monroe and Graceland Ave. It’s a miracle we were not all killed, darting out from the alleys into the crossing streets. Unfortunately, Lee and John went on to Stephen Decatur H.S. and I went to MacArthur, so we saw very little of each other after that. I did happen to visit Lee once at UofI and he gave me an astronomy text book, which I still have. Best wishes and most gracious blessings to you all.

  2. Beth & family & Judy, We’re praying for all of you during this difficult time. May God provide people to support and help you as you move forward from this point. God Bless! Tom & Linda

  3. My condolences to you and your family. My family (Sally, Haley, Katelyn, Emily, and now Michael) wish you the best. Again, sorry about loss. Always, Paul

  4. It really sucks my name wasn’t included in this long paragraph about my grandfather because as far as I know my mom is his daughter as well ! I’m the GRANDDAUGHTER of my papa ! I miss you papa !! You are forever in my heart and I come on this page every year !! There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about you ! You would love your great grandbabies so much .. I wish you were.
