Lynda J. Metzler died peacefully on May 7th, 2025, surrounded by her husband and family, less than 2 weeks away from her 85th birthday. Lyn was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Mildred and Bruce Relyea where she attended Euclid High School and was the Class of 1958’s Homecoming Queen. Upon graduating, she attended Miami University at Oxford Ohio, earning a degree in Education and taught briefly after graduation. In 1962, she married her husband of almost 63 years, Edward Metzler. Lyn and Ed raised 5 children while moving around the country from Michigan to Ohio, to California, back to Ohio and finally back to California. In 1993, they settled in their paradise, the Shady Lane Ranch, on the Santa Rosa Plateau in Murrieta, California. For over thirty years, they enjoyed socializing in the La Cresta community and were devoted members of the Santa Rosa Plateau Riding Club, often hosting rides and cow sorting events at their ranch.

Lyn was an avid reader, horse woman, curious traveler and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who forever worried about her dogs and enjoyed a great conversation and a good laugh with family and friends over a glass of wine. She was a wonderful friend to many and enormous fun to be around. She also gave back to the community by volunteering at the Assistance League of Temecula Valley and was president for a time. Lyn was preceded in death by her son, Matthew and grandson Hunter is survived by her husband Edward; children, Michael Metzler, Melinda Jodoin, Marliee Metzler, and Marcia Metzler Rackstraw and 7 grandchildren.

  1. Such a beautiful obituary for such a beautiful Angel 😇. Lynn, you are now in heaven with the other angels, we have lost. Enjoy sipping wine with Amalia and practicing a little tai chi. Keep reminding Donna that you will practice your lines for her play. Don’t forget, Evelyn is there with you and will always help. Keep laughing with Laura Ogden. And don’t forget the rest of us who are still here. Miss you and everyone else. Will always remember your sparkling eyes and you’re beautiful smile.
    Rest and peace.

  2. It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to Lyn. I remember only too well when I took over running the Ladies’ Luncheon Group, in La Cresta, she was one of the first women to step up and offer her home for us to have a luncheon in. I was fairly new in the area and didn’t have a long list of friends locally to rely upon and there she was for me. Sometimes those small acts of kindness mean the most. A few years later Lyn stepped up again for me. The Ladies Luncheon Group was organizing a huge “Yard” sale, where the proceeds would be donated to The Oak Grove School in Murrieta to help the children celebrate the holidays. Again, Lyn stepped forward and said, “Use our apartment out by the barn to store items, sort and price.” “Two months” later we finally took everything to the school for the weekend sale and made a large sum to help the kids enjoy their holidays at there!
Another thing Lyn did for the community was during covid. She volunteered their grounds for state buses with nurses etc. to come in for the day to give covid shots. When Tina Clippinger wanted to do this, Lyn was right there to help! You never needed to ask twice!
As most of you probably know Lyn was active with the Assistance League in Temecula and was also their President for a few years. I’m sure there were other small and large acts of kindness on her part that she never mentioned. That was Lyn, no braggadocios, just always there to help!
With her beautiful smile, bright blue eyes that twinkled and gorgeous silver locks of hair she was stunning besides generous! And I might add here that I hope someone is stilling feeding all of those Hummingbirds that she loved!
Lyn thank you for all of your caring and service to our community. Most will not know how much you gave to us, but many of us do and we loved you for it! We’ll miss you … but heaven has a beautiful blue-eyed angel now who I’m sure is helping everyone.
Our sincere condolences to the Metzler family,
    Stephanie and Christoper Johnson

  3. I had planned to message Lyn with a birthday greeting and was so very sorry to see that Lyn had passed.
I lived on 202, the woods behind our home backed up to Lynda’s street. We played together
in that woods throughout our younger years. Then on to Shore School through elementary and of
course Euclid High where Lynda was so popular. So many good memories!!! The Euclid Class of ’58
will be so very sorry to hear and we all extend our vey deepest sympathy. Mary Ellen Thompson Buzanski
