Lynn Neoma Fanene

lynn fanene

Lynn Neoma Fanene, Sr., 73, of Temecula, California, passed away peacefully at his home on November 25, 2023. He spent the last few weeks of his life on hospice, surrounded by loved ones.

Lynn, “The Big Kahuna”, was born the second child of Ailama and Loika (Keawemauhili) Fanene in Kahuku, Hawaii on April 6, 1950. Lynn grew up in the small LDS town of Laie on the island of Oahu, Hawaii where he lived with his siblings Malveen, Wayne, and Sharon until he graduated from Kahuku High School in 1968. Sadly, at the age of 17, his father passed away from kidney failure.

Lynn received his draft card at 18, but instead of joining the Army, he joined the Navy and did four tours in Vietnam assigned to a riverine boat unit. After his return home, he married his beautiful wife, Daveleen (Iki) Broad on July 15, 1972. Together they had four children, D’Lynn, Maggie, Lynn Jr., and Wallace. Lynn has 7 grandchildren, Kera, Ryli, Nalia, Daniel, Lokepa, Thea, and Jackson.

Lynn retired from the Navy after 21 years of service before transitioning into the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, assigned to the City of Temecula. Lynn retired from the Sheriff’s Department in 2009 after 20 years of service.

Lynn was proud to have had 2 careers in his life. He enjoyed his time in the Navy as it took him around the world and to different countries and he was a proud veteran. He also loved his service with the Sheriff’s Department, fulfilling his childhood dream. Many will remember Lynn as the first Community Service Officer in Temecula. One of his favorite duties was coordinating neighborhood watch meetings and getting to interact with the public. If anyone asked him if he liked his job, Lynn’s answer would always be, “I love my job!”.

Lynn was also a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and attended the Temecula Creek Ward. He served many callings throughout his life, from scout leader to his last, emergency preparedness coordinator. Lynn served the Lord with all his heart and was a god-fearing man. His example of love and charitability will live on in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Daveleen (Broad) Fanene, and his children, D’Lynn Fanene-Gascon (Brian), Maggie Hiebert (Wayne-deceased), Lynn Fanene, Jr. (Jessica), and Wallace (Scarlet), his seven grandchildren, and three siblings. We love you, Dad!

Family and Friends can gather on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Temecula LDS chapel, 38910 Sky Canyon Drive, Murrieta Ca. 92563 (upper building). Viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:30. 1. Aloha ‘oe Uncle Lynn, you live on in your family. I love you ❤️
In the words of an Eskimo legend “Perhaps, they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven,
Where the love of our lost ones pours down through and shines upon us to let us know they are happy.”

  2. Lynn, Iki and family 🙏❤️❤️❤️!
It was an honor to be part of Lynn’s life, he was such a genuine soul and a man’s man… Lynn was always available to listen and offer thoughts and wisdom when one was facing challenges in life or even second quessing what was taking place and how to properly address something. I always admired the respect he was given and knew it was well deserved, Lynn was an absolute man of faith and love for his family! I always felt so privileged to be part of Lynn’s circle of loved ones and knew that he so dearly loved my wife Lynn (and I) as his family… Wishing our father God’s blessings to continue to support the Fanene family though this transission of life and for the children to continue his love for one another, always. With our deepest love and support…

    Gilbert & Lynn Ramos 🙏❤️❤️!
