Mary Jeannette Ochs

September 12, 1934 ~ January 16, 2021
Mary “Jeannette” Colomey was born and raised in Boston, MA., and moved to California in 1949 where she attended Garden Grove High School. In 1954, she met the love of her life, Melvin Eugene “Gene” Love, at a local diner among friends. They married in 1955 and started a family in Garden Grove, adding three boys, Jeffrey, Michael, and Ronald, to the already expansive Love family.
Jeannette held her Cosmetology Certificate and worked as a hairdresser until she obtained her AA degree from Fullerton College. She went on to become a dedicated school teacher at Mitchell Elementary within the Garden Grove Unified School District.
After several years in Garden Grove, Gene and Jeannette retired to Temecula to continue the tradition of hosting frequent family gatherings and holiday events. Unfortunately, Gene succumbed to Parkinson’s disease in 1999.
Several years later, on a New Year’s Eve blind date, Jeannette met and fell in love with Robert Henry “Bob” Ochs, whom she married in 2002. They traveled, enjoyed performances at the local theater, and spent time with family and friends including Bob’s six children, sixteen grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.
Jeannette was a respected educator, a trusted hairdresser, and an accomplished artist. She loved to exercise, line dance, read, play sudoku, complete crossword puzzles, and was extremely well-traveled. Most importantly, she was the matriarch of the beautiful family she created. She enjoyed hosting Sunday dinners, holidays, birthdays and visiting with family and friends. Jeannette was a perfectionist, she was glamorous but down to earth, she drove a fast car. Her advice was unvarnished but always warranted, she was generous and kind, a role model, a friend, a daughter, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. She loved deeply and was loved by many. She will forever be in our hearts.
Jeannette is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey, Michael and Ronald, her six grandchildren, Sara, Michael, Scott, Valerie, Chad and Arielle, and her two great grandchildren, Carter and Cole.
