Myrna Grace (Ohlman) DuVall, 88, entered her eternal heavenly home Monday, December 26, 2022, at her daughter’s home with family in Temecula, CA.
A Memorial Service will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, 1405 E. Fallbrook St., Fallbrook, CA on Saturday, January 14 at 11 am. All are invited who wish to share in the celebration of Myrna’s life.
Myrna Grace Ohlman was born on October 28, 1934, in Shelton, Nebraska to Fred and Viola (Holtz) Ohlman.
Myrna spent her first years in a small farming community founded by German immigrants called Luce, northwest of Shelton, Nebraska. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on November 11, 1934, at Zion Lutheran Church, Shelton, NE and attended parochial school at the same church founded by her grandparents and where her parents were married. After graduating Central City High School in 1952, she became a teacher.
On June 16, 1954, Myrna married Quentin L. DuVall at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. At the time, Quentin was an Army Paratrooper serving with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Kansas, North Carolina, Maryland, Indiana, Nebraska, and Georgia, before settling in Southern California in 1967.
In addition to raising her 3 children, Myrna worked a variety of jobs in banking and government civil service. While working for the military at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, GA, she was privileged to operate an early version of the computer. She also worked in civil service at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, CA. A lifelong learner, Myrna returned to college, and received her degree from Metropolitan Technical Institute & Business College at age 51. She was named Valedictorian of her graduating class. Upon graduation, she took a position at Ashton-Tate as Administrative Assistant to the Corporate Controller.
Myrna and Quentin moved to the Riverside County community of Menifee in 1990. From 1992 to 1999, Myrna worked with the Press-Enterprise newspaper in Riverside, where she wrote obituaries, short stories and clips.
Myrna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fallbrook. Besides her involvement in church activities, she always enjoyed a strong cup of coffee, reading, tending her garden, and traveling back to Nebraska to visit with family and friends, stopping at historic sites along the way. Myrna was always grateful for being blessed with “ol’ Midwestern grit,” which often helped her conquer rough times and maximize the many good times.
She is survived by her husband, Quentin Laffoon DuVall; son, Roderick (Christie) DuVall of Anaheim; daughter, Denise (Michael) Kenney of Temecula; three grandchildren, Jarod (Angela) DuVall of Studio City, Kalyn Kenney and Ryan (Stephanie Fiori) Kenney of Temecula; great-grandchild, Matthew Kenney; brothers Donald (Sandra) Ohlman of Central City, NE; Bernard Ohlman of Grand Island, NE; sister Dorian Pfeifer, of AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; sons, Quentin L. DuVall Jr. and Quentin L. DuVall III; brother, Jerry W. Ohlman, and sister, Ruth Karr. Arrangements are being made through the England Family Mortuary of Temecula.
Internment will be private at Riverside National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zion Lutheran Church/School, Zion’s Fellowship Committee, Zion’s Vacation Bible School, Hope Clinic for Women in Fallbrook or to a charity of one’s choice in Myrna’s memory.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to England Family Mortuary, Inc.
