Greg England

Funeral Director 2779, Crematory Operator & Pastoral Care

The funeral profession, to me, is a unique ministry that allows me to draw from years of church vocation. Helping people navigate a journey without high pressure sales pitches brings great joy to me and to them. Often a family member will see me out in the public years later, come up and hug me and thank me, again, for helping them through the “funeral maze.” And I love being self employed in a family business.
I grew up in the Deep South where community was a very important part of one’s life. I find the Temecula Valley to be a large community with a small-town feel. The people here are friendly and pleasant. I have been actively involved in our church family as a fill-in preacher on given Sundays; teaching seminars on grief recovery as well as conflict resolution; and, for the past several years, I’ve been active in the worship ministry of Awakening Church, playing multiple instruments.
My educational background includes degrees in psychology and counseling as well as Biblical studies. I was trained in mediation and conflict resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law. My 35 years in church ministry provides insight into people’s needs and how to handle each family uniquely.
My wife, Janice (and co-funeral director at England Family) met in 10th grade and have been together ever since. We have over 50 years together and have been blessed with two children, four grandchildren, multiple dogs (presently Sadie), and many friends literally across the country. I enjoy reading, Bible study, music (I am a multi-instrumentalist), and spending time with friends. My grandchildren bring us immeasurable joy.

It’s simple: Serving other people through the maze of loss, grief, and what to do next give me great joy. Many of our families simply have no idea what to do and I am usually involved in helping to guide them.
We have lived in the valley for almost 15 years and have been involved with several churches, including The Awakening Church in Murrieta. My husband and I thoroughly enjoy the summer concerts offered by Temecula and Murrieta. This community has a large population, but a small town feel and friendliness to it.
Along with being a licensed funeral director, I am licensed to sell pre-need insurance policies. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Education and have over 30 years of teaching experience in private and public schools in 4 states. The experience gives me insight into many aspects of planning and problem solving.
My husband Greg, and I met in 10th grade and have been together since, marrying just out of college and now celebrating almost 50 years of marriage. I am blessed to work with my husband and son (who manages the mortuary, and also have a daughter, Jessica, who is a very successful professional in the Los Angeles area. We have 4 grandchildren and a dog that gives us plenty of entertainment and joy. Over the years we have enjoyed camping with friends.

“Wuff, Wuff”

Translated: I love coming to work everyday with my human, Josh. I love spending time in the mortuary and sleeping in the hallway. My favorite thing is to love on families when they are having a really bad day. I have been known to hear a family crying and open the door to come sit next to them to offer them comfort…I love to sit on the couch next to families. I have been requested to come and sit in on many funerals and celebrations over the years.

In my spare time I love to go for rides in my human’s truck to get a Pup Cup from Starbucks and spend time with my human family and my little brother Banks. I have been working at England Family Mortuary since I was just over 6 weeks old.

I love our work environment and working for my brother-in-law Josh. I was hesitant at first to get into the funeral home business but quickly realized I absolutely love being able to serve and comfort families during a difficult time. I went through a very hard loss losing one of my closest friends in a rock-climbing accident in college but find that this job allows me to help families like his.
One of the biggest things I love about our community is its location. It is an hour from the beach and an hour from the mountains. When I am not working at the mortuary, I am also a Pastor at The Awakening Church in Murrieta. I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, wakeboarding and basically anything outdoors. I am originally from the Midwest, and I truly feel like Temecula/Murrieta area is the closest thing to the Midwest that Southern California has to offer.
When I went through a tragic accident and experienced the loss of my friend it equipped me to be able to relate to families. I am organized, compassionate, and caring. I truly strive to treat every family I work with like I would have wanted my friend’s family to be treated.
I got married in Feb of 2020 to my amazing and beautiful wife Brittany. We live together up in Temecula Deluz area with our dog Hoosier. We love spending time with family, going on hikes, going to Brittany’s parents’ cabin in Maine and serving at our church.
