Obituary of Robertine Miller

Robertine “Tina” Hubbard was born May 13, 1936 in Gurdon, Arkansas to George Jr. and Bernice Hubbard. One of 9 children, Tina was the second oldest daughter of George and Bernice. Sadly, the family lost their father when Tina was a young age. Tina grew up and attended schools in Gurdon, Arkansas. She graduated from Henry Bell High School where she played basketball and was quite proud of her athletic ability. Tina and her remaining siblings shared a good relationship. Together they formed a singing group, and Tina was often invited to sing at special church events. After graduating from high school with honors, Tina hoped to continue on to higher learning; however, the family could not afford to send her to college. Not long after that, she met and married a handsome young military man by the name of Aubrey Johnson (Sr.). This union produced two children: Aubrey Jr. (Bubba) and Sonia Renee. Tina balanced military and family life by relying on her faith and focusing on other responsibilities. She gained experience in the retail industry and often served in supervisory positions. Throughout the family’s years in military life, Tina devoted herself to raising her children and helping her husband provide for the family. After moving to California and eventually leaving the retail industry, Tina worked as a healthcare worker for ActivCare Living, a residential memory care facility in San Diego, California. As was her nature, she worked tirelessly and without complaint. Tina received numerous awards for her dedication and service to ActivCare’s residents. After retiring from ActivCare, she moved to Murrieta, California with her daughter and son-in-law. Tina joined Abundant Life Ministries in San Diego, California in 1988. She was a faithful member for over 10 years, teaching youth Sunday School, serving as the church musician, and helping to meet the needs of the church and her community. In recognition of Tina’s faithful dedication, Pastor Naomi Cannon awarded her the “Distinguished Service Award in Recognition of Exceptional Leadership and Devoted Service,” and another award for “Faithful and Loyal Service as Church Musician, Sunday School Teacher, and Outstanding Diligent, Caring Service over Communion.” Tina was a loving grandmother as well as a doting mom, and she always showed warmth and kindness toward others. She made friends and neighbors feel special. Tina was always quick to share anything she had and to offer her help. At home, she loved to sing praise songs around the house and took great pleasure in playing the piano throughout the day. She and her son-in-law, Reggie, would hold their own little “praise jam” sessions, he on the drums and she on the piano. She loved home bible study and never hesitated to join in discussions on God’s word. For a time, she taught Sunday School to her grandchildren soon after the family moved to Murrieta. She especially enjoyed watching the family play games and have fun together. She never failed to show appreciation for her kids and grandkids in some way. Family was her world, and these were the things that brought her joy before she became disabled by a debilitating illness. We will forever hold in our hearts the memories of the Tina who loved, laughed, and most importantly, lived for Jesus. She will be missed, never forgotten, always loved for her spirit, her selflessness, and her kindness. Tina is preceded in death by her parents George and Bernice, sister Louise and brothers Oliver, Leon, Elgin, and Cle Ernest. Those left to cherish Tina’s memory include sisters Eloise (Joe), Izetta (Verdell), brother Horace (Leslie); children Aubrey Jr. and Renee (Reginald), 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Till we meet again, mama, rest well. You deserve it. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” ~ Psalm 46:1
