Obituary of Myrna Sarmiento Mendoza Serranzanna

MYRNA “MRS. PING” SERRANZANA PERRY, GEORGIA – Myrna Sarmiento Mendoza Serranzana, 63, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, September 30, 2020. All services will be held in Temecula, California, just north of San Diego. The Visitation and Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at England Family Mortuary. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church. Interment will be in Temecula Public Cemetery immediately following the service. Myrna was born in Cavite City, Philippines, to the late Gaudencio and Maria Sarmiento Mendoza, the youngest of five children. She married the love of her life, Rufino Yardley Serranzana, and they had two children. In 1997, Rufino’s job with Northrop-Grumman brought the family from Los Angeles, California, to Middle Georgia, where Myrna would become actively involved in her businesses and community. She soon opened and operated Ping’s Seafood in Fort Valley, and became affectionately known to customers and friends as “Mrs. Ping.” An extremely busy and successful businesswoman through the years, Myrna also owned and managed Big Chick in Fort Valley, Fort Valley Flea Market, and Ping’s Seafood at Galleria Mall in Centerville. She met many people and enjoyed catering for Fort Valley State University, the Peach County Board of Education and School System, and several other organizations and individuals. Myrna delighted in “Face-Timing” with her sister every day and spent as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling overseas, especially in the past three years since her retirement from the restaurant business, and going on family cruises with her sisters and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gaudencio “Bo” Mendoza, Jr. Those left to cherish the memories they made with Myrna are her loving and devoted husband of over forty-five years, Rufino “Ping” Serranzana; her children, Jerremy Serranzana and Jenelle Serranzana; her grandchildren, Bailey Serranzana and Jaiden Serranzana; her sisters, Crisanta Murray (Sam Fite), Julieta Lim (Javier), Virginia Rezai-Hariri, and Mila West; and many nieces and nephews. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
