Obituary of Marion Frances Amescua

Marion Frances Amescua passed away on October 7, 2020, at the age of eighty-three. The daughter of Italian immigrants Vincent Ferlisi and Carmelo Conte Ferlisi, Marion was born on February 13, 1937, in Woburn, Massachusetts. She grew up on an egg farm with her five brothers and two sisters. She attended St. Charles All-Girl Catholic High School, graduating in 1954. Her first job after high school was as a secretary in Boston, Massachusetts. Marion married Guy Francescon on October 4, 1958 and their son; Christopher was born on March 17, 1960, in Winchester, Massachusetts. Marion and her family moved to California in 1963, and her son Lewis was born on October 16, 1964, in West Covina, California. Marion worked as a secretary throughout her early years in California, finally settling on a career as an Office Support Assistant with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in 1974. In 1979, during the time they were residing in West Covina, Guy was diagnosed with cancer and died shortly thereafter. After his death, Marion took on a second job at El Dorado College where she taught typing for thirteen years in order to give her children a Catholic school education. Marion was visiting her son Christopher, his wife Anne, and their children, Rachel and Hannah, in 1992, and was introduced to their neighbor, Alphonso Amescua. A romance ensued and they were married on October 23, 1993. Marion and Alphonso remained in West Covina until 2002, when they moved to Temecula to be closer to the boys and their families. Marion retired from her job with Los Angeles County that same year. Marion enjoyed gardening throughout her life and became a member of the Temecula Valley Garden Club after her move to Temecula. She always enjoyed volunteering at their annual flower show, and encouraged her grandchildren to enter the competition. She was an avid Los Angeles Laker fan through the good times and not so good times. She was able to attend the Laker victory parades while working in Los Angeles and attended a couple of their games at the Staples Center. Marion and Al were avid sports fans, and often spent their weekends watching any and all the sports together. She was also very active in attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events over the years. Marion looked forward to and loved her visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marion had great joy in hosting holiday events. Her cooking and baking would start days ahead of time. Marion was a fantastic cook, harboring some recipes that were handed down for generations. The feast would have course after course followed up with a large display of desserts. She always smiled broadly as she watched her family gathered around the table enjoying her meals. Marion is survived by her husband Alphonso Amescua; her son Christopher, his wife Anne, and their children Rachel married to Stephen Flemings, Hannah married to Jake Stutz, Jordan married to Eli Pruneda, Bethany, and Michaela; her son Lewis, his wife Kim, and their children, Sheridan, Sebastian, and Sinclair; and her great -grandchildren Cecilia, Noelle, Felicity, and Lily.
