Mercedes Pamintuan

Obituary of Mercedes Guinto Pamintuan

Mercedes, or Mercy, to her family and friends, went Home to her Creator at the age of 83.  She was born to Emilio Guinto and Maria Bernardo in Sineguelasan, Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines.  She was married to Jose Bondoc Pamintuan at Bacoor Unida Evangelical Church in Cavite, Philippines on February 17, 1963.  They were blessed with 4 children, Adonis, Joyce, Jimmy and Mylene and resided in Mandaluyong, Philippines for 20 years.  In March 1993, she, her husband and their youngest daughter immigrated to San Diego, California.  She and Jose were together for 51 wonderful years of marriage, until Jose went Home to be with his Maker in 2015.

Mercy studied at Southeastern College, Philippines and worked as a Bookkeeper at a clothing factory in Mandaluyong.  Later, as a fulltime Mom of 4 with entrepreneurial skills, she and Jose opened a Photo Shop and then a Sari-sari Store (variety store).  Honing her cooking skills, they then launched a Filipino Desserts business where they supplied native delicacies to 5-star hotels in Makati, Philippines. They continued this business and flourished in the Filipino communities in San Diego, California.

She had a very bubbly personality, had many friends, and loved serving others and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She actively served as the PTA Secretary and Treasurer of Highway Hills Elementary School where her children attended. She also had a lovely soprano voice and was in the worship choir at both Bacoor Unida Church and Highway Hills United Methodist Church (HHUMC) in Mandaluyong. She and Jose were long-time active members at HHUMC where they made many lifetime friends even after moving to the States.

She was a beautiful, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She adored her family and always carried a photo album in her purse to show pictures of her kids and grandkids to her friends.  She was a fantastic cook and was delighted to watch her family gather around the table enjoying her dishes and one another.  She was a hardworking woman with grit and resilience who lived through difficulties during the World War II Japanese Occupation of the Philippines.  Her faith, family and friends fueled her zeal for life.  This life she now lives in the everlasting presence of her Heavenly Father, reunited with her husband, made whole--body, soul and spirit.

She is survived by her 4 children, Adonis (Irene) Pamintuan; Joyce (Mario) Gallegos; Jimmy (Michelle) Pamintuan; Mylene (Calvin) Miles; 19 grandchildren, Warren, Carina, Flinky, Durin, Ryan, Haidi, Arnold, Rafael, Marian, Marcus, Channel, Sabrina, Katiana, Keena, Mischa, Sean, Matthew, Ethan and Kirsten; brother Benjamin Guinto, sister Araceli Recto, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a small memorial service at England Family Mortuary on Monday, December 14th, and a private burial following. The memorial service will be live streamed. If you would like to join us via livestream or if you have any questions, please contact Joyce or Mylene.

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers,

nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing,

shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
