Obituary of Catalina Orduño Rodriguez

Catalina Orduño Rodriguez  “Tia Cata” of Menifee CA, passed away on Wednesday, February 24th  2021, at the young age of 72. She is survived by a large and loving family and will forever live in the memories of all who knew her.

Catalina was the 8th child of Francisca Ortiz, “Mama Pachita,” and Remigio Rodriguez Rodrigues, “Papa Remigio,” and had 9 brothers and sisters. Catalina was born in Aguas Calientes and grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico. After being trained as a secretary, she found her true calling as a wife and loving mother to her 5 children.

She was a talented seamstress and designed her own wedding dress, clothes for her children, grandchildren, and was the first to help with creative projects throughout the family. She was always a willing participant in someone’s alterations and it didn’t matter how extravagant or unorthodox your vision was, all she needed was a photograph to bring it to life. Countless hours were spent by her nieces and nephews driving around towns to get her supplies to create the perfect costumes for danzante, quinceaneras, first communions, folkloricos, and anything else you could think of. We doubt there’s a person in the family who doesn’t have something Tia Cata made (or modified) hanging in their closet.

An excellent cook, baker, seamstress, and the renowned best tortilla-maker in the family; there was nothing she couldn’t do. She was the most resourceful person and was able to teach herself everything she needed to know. At all times, Catalina was her true self. Everyone, especially her brothers and sisters, admired her authenticity and positive attitude.

Catalina lived her life in service of those she loved, and she loved everybody  - including you.

Her heart and her spirit were bigger than the Grand Canyon. She never had an issue with anybody and her capacity to forgive was immense. To be loved by Tia Cata was to feel completely taken care of.

She was fiercely independent and her quick-witted humor was legendary. She was about feeling good, and she always kept moving forward, regardless of what life threw at her.

Her ability to see the light in a dark situation will continue to be an inspiration to all of us. Her warm smile and the sound of her laughter will forever echo in our hearts.

There is no doubt that this angel went straight to Heaven and didn’t make any stops along the way.
