Alberto Abellaneda

Obituary of Alberto P. Abellaneda

Alberto "Bert" Abellaneda, 83, of Murrieta, California, passed away peacefully at home on April 29, 2021 with his wife by his side.

Bert was born in Cebu, Philippines on September 11, 1937.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Silliman University in 1961.  In 1968, he and his family immigrated to the United States, settling in Chicago, Illinois.  There, he started working for Brach's confectionery company.  While employed at Brach's, he was sent to the University of Wisconsin, Madison Department of Food Science to learn about the science of candy making.  After Brach's, he went to work for Leaf Confectionery Company for the rest of his nearly thirty year career in the candy industry.  After retirement, he and his wife moved to Murrieta, California.

Bert loved spending time with family and friends.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, tennis, and playing cards.  He was also an avid sports fan.  In his later years, his greatest joy was watching his two granddaughters grow up.

He is survived by his loving wife, Esperanza; his children, Alex Abellaneda (Gloria) and Eileen Horton (Sean); and his grandchildren, Allison Abellaneda and Grace Horton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Fortunata Abellaneda, and by his five siblings, Maximo, Anita, Cristino, Mariles, and Corazon.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
