Dorothy F Hailey

dorothy hailey

Dorothy Freeman Hailey, affectionately known to her many friends and family as “Dot” passed away peacefully at her Menifee, Ca home with her son by her side on October 4, 2024, of natural causes. She was 90 years young. Born on September 23, 1934 in Shreveport, LA,. she was raised in the small village of Belcher in Caddo Parish, and was educated at Louisiana Tech University.

Soon after, she met her future husband Stanley W. Hailey, and they lived  in New Orleans while Stanley attended medical school at Tulane. After medical school, they settled in Dallas, TX to raise a family. Years later, they would eventually divorce, but remained lifelong friends until Stanley’s passing in 2002.

Taking her own path, Dot went on to teach elementary school in Los Angeles, inspiring a younger generation with her youthful sense of style, zest for life, and her trailblazing spirit. After retiring from teaching at 72, she packed up the car in Los Angeles and moved to Las Vegas to begin a new adventure. While living there, she acquired her real estate license, met many new friends, and lived life to the fullest. Even winning the occasional Keno jackpot. She loved animals, and her beloved teacup poodle Gigi was never far behind.

Dot was known for her many talents, including her remarkable green thumb, her effortless hosting and decorating skills, her graceful southern charm, and delightful sense of humor. But it was her gentle, caring nature, her kindness toward others, and her loyalty that endeared her to many. She will be greatly missed.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hattie Freeman, her sister Hattie Dacey, and her daughter, Heather Helene Hailey. She is survived by her son Harlin Hailey of Menifee, Ca. Her son wishes to thank Nightingale’s hospice and the wonderful nurses and home health aides who cared for her with dignity and compassion.

A private funeral service was held on November 8th, followed by a scattering of ashes at Olivewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Riverside, CA.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to England Family Mortuary, Inc.
