Maria J. Betancourt passed away on September 12, 2016 in Murrieta, CA, where she has lived for the past 20 years. She was born in Naranja, TX, but grew up in Matamoros, Tamulipaus, MX, later living in various states before finally settling in California. She is preceded in death by both her parents, 10 brothers and sisters. and her first born son Carlos Betancourt. She is survived by two daughters, one son, seven grandchildren, one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law. She was loved by many, especially her grandchildren and children. She came from humble beginnings, she worked in the fields as a child, worked hard to build herself up. She taught herself how to read English and speak English by herself. She had a strong faith in God, she was a devoted Catholic. She was funny, stubborn and smart. She believed in standing up for her rights and the rights of others. She would lend a helping hand to any regardless of who they were. She raised her children by sheer force and determination and by herself. She was the strongest women we ever knew. She was a blessing to us and to others. She was our beloved mother who showed us how to be a parent, be strong, to be a burra and show compassion. She put her children before herself, if we only had one thing to eat, she gave the bigger share to us. If some one came to her with need, she gave what she could, her dicho was, " Where one could eat, two can eat and where two can eat three can eat and so on..." That was Our Mama', Our mommy, Our mother. The viewing will be at England Family Mortuary and held on September 30th from 10am to 12pm, where she will then be transported to St. Catherine's of Alexandria church in Temecula, CA for her funeral mass will commence at 1pm to 2pm. There will be a funeral reception to follow at her daughter's home in Wildomar, CA, immediately following the mass. All are encouraged to come and share your memories with her family.
