Michael Allan Schmidt

Michael Allan Schmidt was born on September 15, 1947, in Washington, D.C. to Mary Helen
Blankenship and the late Howard Edwin Cudmore. Michael passed away on September 13,
2024, in Temecula, California. Some of his favorite childhood memories are of spending time
with his mother’s family who helped raise him and his sister, Barbara, after his father’s passing.
Michael graduated from Ballou High School in 1966 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for
two years active duty on a submarine, followed by two years of reserve. After his time in the
military, he traveled across the United States and backpacked through Europe. Later, he went
on to attend college at San Diego State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in
Zoology. While there, he met Sherrie Lynn Jewett. They were married on April 2,1977 in the Los
Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mike and Sherrie had four
daughters: Erica (Timothy) Winter, Jessica (Peter) Bahen, Renee (Jaime) Lopez, and Kristen
(Jason) Kennedy. He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren: Madilyn, Tyler, Andrew, Ethan,
Eliza, Dallin, Leah, Ella, Melody, Logan, and Lydia.
Michael was an educator who loved the life sciences and taught biology at Mira Mesa High
School. He enjoyed learning and spent his free time developing many hobbies such as
photography, ham radio, aviation, firearms, emergency preparedness, and guitar.
He had a contagious smile and was happiest spending time with his family and friends. We are
grateful for eternal families and look forward to seeing him again.
