Michael Dean Ballantyne
July 4, 1951 ~ February 1, 2023
Michael Ballantyne, 71, of Canyon Lake, California, a beloved husband to Candee Ballantyne, loving father to Kimberlee Ballantyne-Morse and James Ballantyne, and best papa to grandson Braden Ballantyne passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 after a brief illness.
Mike was born on July 4,1951 in Charles City, Iowa. The son of Lowell and Peggy Ballantyne, he grew up with his older brother David Ballantyne and younger sister Linda Ballantyne. At a young age, the family moved to Fullerton, California where he graduated from Sunny Hills High School in 1969. He met the love of his life, Candee, in 1974 and they were later married on August 14,1976. This past August they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
He worked hard and achieved his dream of being a firefighter and eventually an Engineer for the fire department. He enjoyed his career immensely, making lifelong friendships and serving the public proudly until his retirement from the Orange County Fire Authority in 2007 after 33 years of service.
Known for his witty sense of humor and infectious laugh, Mike was always great at finding the funny side of life. His favorite pastime was spending summers boating in Lake Havasu, Arizona with his family. Football Sundays were a weekly tradition even though he lived in a divided household (Go Packers, Broncos, and Raiders!) He spent countless hours traveling to baseball, softball, and volleyball games to cheer on his kids growing up. He gained a daughter-in-law, Mindy Ballantyne, in 2015 and a son-in-law, Justin Morse, in 2017. Most recently, he enjoyed cheering on his grandson at his sporting events. Family time meant everything to him. That was always his happy place!
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Eagle Glen Golf Course in Corona, California.
I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to meet Mike when I flew to California for my Grandkids Graduation. I had the opportunity to talk with him and I loved the way he loved my Grandkids as his own. He was a warm, caring, and loveable person and you could truly tell how much he loved his family. I feel very honored to have met him. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family ❤️
