Nick Nagy, 71, a long time resident of Temecula, California, passed away on August 5, 2012 at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, CA. Nick was born on July 10, 1941, in Lincoln Park, Michigan to William and Anna Nagy. Nick served in the U.S. Navy for 7 years. During this time, he married Linda June Brown, they had 5 children. He was an excellent athlete and played in a minor league football and baseball team in Detroit, Michigan. He joined the Seafarer’s International Union as a US Merchant Marine in 1965 and climbed the ranks to Boatswain, where he worked for 20 years and then on to becoming an Merchant Marine Officer, working for the American Maritime Officers, retiring as a Master (Captain) of United States steam or motor vessels of any gross tons upon oceans in 1998. His service as a merchant marine included serving during the Viet Nam, Iraq and Persian Gulf Wars. He married Cindy in 1979. She brought 1 son into their marriage and they had 1 son. They were married for 33 years. He traveled all over the world and would come home after tasting food in different countries and try his best to replicate the foods from memory of the taste, always making the comment after the meal that it tasted just like what he had experienced on his travels. Of course, we always believed him. After he retired, he became an avid armchair sports enthusiast. There was no sport on tv that got past his watchful eye. He could watch Tiger Woods for days and would even be caught watching reruns of golf games and boxing matches. He loved to cook for his family always surprising us with the most amazing dinners. He was a great story teller, always keeping the listener’s ear so you didn’t miss a word he was saying not knowing where the tale would end. I believe that is known as being able to tell a “good sea story.” He loved reading, his alone time, watering the lawn while he prayed but he especially loved being with his friends in several different groups in the Temecula Valley. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Nagy; sister, Irene Miller of Iron Mountain, Michigan; sister, Mary Franckowiak of Mount Clements, MI.
