Santiago Mendoza
September 9, 1961 ~ June 4, 2012
Santiago Sergio Mendoza was born in La Habana, Cuba in 1961. He and his parents immigrated to the United States in 1968, eventually living in Northern California then moved to Southern California. Santiago graduated from South Gate High School in 1979. Immediately after his graduation he signed up for the Marine Corp. and served from 1979 to 1983. Santiago has 3 children: Jennifer, Erika and Joseph who live in Florida. He is a proud grand-father of 2 beautiful girls, Mikayla and Madeline. In 2010 Santiago married Leticia in Key West, Florida. They made their home in Murrieta along with Leticia’s kids Jacob and Jazmin. Santiago started working for Southern California Edison in 1984. At Edison he worked as a Meter Reader, Lineman and worked as a Streetlight Repairman since 1997. Santiago enjoyed music. As a young boy in Cuba he enjoyed walking down the street watching people play music. He told his Mom “I want to be a Musician when I grow up.” Though his Mom told him that was not a good lifestyle for a family man, he still held that dream. He enjoyed having Jam sessions with his friends, playing the Congas among other instruments. He enjoyed the outdoors and had a passion for boating and fishing. He loved to camp & enjoyed having a nice quiet dinner by the water. Santiago was very spontaneous & outgoing. He had lots of energy and his smile is unforgettable. You will always be remembered for your giving heart. Always in our hearts: loving husband, father, grand-father and friend. We love you. Santiago Mendoza died on June 4, 2012, at the age of 50 and is survived by his wife, Leticia; sons Joseph and Jacob; daughters Jennifer, Erika, and Jazmin; brother Orlando and 2 granddaughters: Mikayla & Madeline. A celebration of his life will be held at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs on Tuesday, June 12 at 11:00am. He will be buried with honors at Riverside National Cemetery that afternoon at 2:00pm. My dearest friend, words cannot express my pain to see you go, we have shared some wonderful times with each other and family, I will always cherish every moment together. I thank God for bringing us so close together through the years; we were blessed to know you. I always considered you like a brother as you did with me. Our deepest condolences to the Family. There are no words that can really give us comfort in times like these. But there is one that can give us all the comfort we need and that is our Lord and Savior. I can honestly say I know Santiago is with our God. I went to high school with Erika and meeting the whole family has been such a blessing in my family’s lives. We love you all very much; know you have been in our prayers through this difficult time. I have only good memories of Santiago. My favorite one was going on a Father Daughter double date with our papitos. He took us to Mayumba this amazing Cuban restaurant. Food Music= two happy fathers with their daughters dancing the night away. In times like these that is what keeps us going those beautiful memories.
Our hearts and prayers go out to all who knew Santiago and deepest sympathies to those closest to him. For anyone who knew Santiago would know he was a great man and a pleasure to be around. I thank you, Santiago for all the fun family excursions we had on your boat in laughflin. You and the family helped create a fun-filled chapter in my life. Thank you for that. With Loving Memories.
