Robert Lloyd Buckles, born to Guy and Mabel Buckles on October 17, 1930 in Daven port, Iowa, passed away peaceful with his family at his side in Palm Desert, California on May 24, 2012 after a long battle with emphysema. 'Bob' was a graduate of University of Illinois in Normal, Illinois and went on to become an awarded architect with practices in Illinois and California. He served as president of the American Institute of Architects Illinois Chapter in the early 1960's and designed dozens of homes and buildings in the Frank Lloyd Wright tradition. Three such buildings were the Aqualetic Swim Clubs that Bob and his brother Ken owned and operated in the Quad City area during the 1960's and 1970's. Bob cherished the many relationships he developed with the hundreds of families that were members of the clubs. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dolores and their children Scott, Chris and Matt, who also became architects. Bob and Dolores met in 1945 at Davenport High School while Bob was on the football team and Dolores was a Baton majorette in the band. Also surviving him are his 3 sisters Patti Knapp, Macky Heller and Ruth Riekman, as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Bob was a kind, gentle man with strong family values and will be greatly missed.
